Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Sunday, raised an alarm that some politicians in the State have concluded plans to incite residents against his government.
Makinde said that opposition politicians, among whom are Senator Olufemi Lanlehin are using campaign of calumny to downplay his achievements.
The Governor added that Lanlehin and his colleagues in the All Progressives Congress (APC) were inciting the people of the State against his government.
DAILY POST reports that Lanlehin is one of the gubernatorial candidates who jettisoned their ambitions to support Makinde in 2019.
Lanlehin, who contested on the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Barrister Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and Chief Bolaji Ayorinde were persuaded by a former Governor of the State, Senator Rasidi Ladoja to support Makinde.
The alliance, DAILY POST recalls, made Makinde to defeat the APC candidate, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu during the 2019 gubernatorial election.
Lanlehin had recently condemned Makinde over the civil disturbance in the State.
Makinde has, however, accused Lanlehin of downplaying his achievements in the State.
But the Governor who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, added that Lanlehin and others are chasing away investors and slowing down the state’s economy.
He also accused Lanlehin of aggravating the security situation in the state.
Makinde said Lanlehin is using his recent outburst to gain cheap popularity.
Makinde said, “Rather than allow the economy stagnate, verified statistics indicated that the governor grew Oyo State economy by as much as 26 per cent last year despite the spiral effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“But it is obvious that the opposition in Oyo State is unhappy with the developmental strides of the Makinde-led administration in the state and that they will do anything to drag attention to pockets of insecurity situation, which the administration is striving daily to bring under control.
“Rather than join hands with the Governor to find lasting solutions to the incidences of crime and criminality occasioned by the general failure of the APC-led Federal Government to secure Nigerian borders and stop the influx of bandits and criminal elements, leaders of the APC have been gloating over such instances.
“It is a clear signal of the measure of evil they wish the state and an obvious demonstration of their unpatriotic conducts.
“Whereas cases of insecurity are widespread across the 36 states of the federation and the FCT Abuja, it is disheartening that only the opposition in Oyo State including Chief Lanlehin, has been known to attempt to grab the headlines in celebration.”
